Set up:  Write the spelling words on index cards and "hide" them all over the room.  Keep them in plain sight, but tape them up on different walls, on the chalkboards, on the door, won the wondows, on the bookshelf, etc.

How to Play:

  • Pair up the students and give each group a spelling list.

  • They have to find the words in the room.

  • When they find a word, they walk up to it.  Student 1 turns his back to the word, and spells it.  If he spells it correctly, his partner will put an check next to the word on their word list.

  • Student 2 then walks up to the same word and turns his back to it.  He spells the word aloud.  If correct, student 1 puts a check next to it on the word list.

  • The two students then go and find another word and repeat the process.

The kids love this game because it allows them to move about the room and because they get to work with a partner.  It's great spelling practice and students can work on this without much teacher help.
